Police investigating 'murder' of former Tonbridge man Adrian Greenwood, who lives in Oxford, make second arrest

A second man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of former Tonbridge School pupil Adrian Greenwood.

Mr Greenwood attended the school from 1984 to 1991, before going to Christ Church, Oxford, and then Imperial College for a masters degree.

He was found dead from with multiple stab wounds in the hallway of his home in Iffley Road, Oxford, on Thursday.

Thames Valley Police said formal identification was due to take place earlier today, but officers said they are satisfied the man is 42-year-old Mr Greenwood.

Just before 11pm on Sunday a 50-year-old-man from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was arrested in Peterborough on suspicion of murder.

Another man was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of murder has been released without charge on Saturday.

DCI Kev Brown of the Major Crime Unit, said: “We continue to urge for the public’s help to find out what happened to Adrian Greenwood. It’s crucial that anyone with any information about Mr Greenwood’s background or the murder comes forward as soon as possible.

“The investigation team would like to hear from anyone who has details about Mr Greenwood’s associates, or anyone or has had a personal or business engagement with him in the last few weeks.

“I would like to thank all those members of the public who have already come forward with information. A number of lines of enquiry are being pursued.

“We are re-releasing a CCTV image of the last sighting of Mr Greenwood, which was at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Oxford Road, Kidlington, at about 6pm on Tuesday April 5. If you saw him after this time we would also like to hear from you."

The police appeal is also focusing on whether anyone heard anything suspicious near Mr Greenwood's home.

Specialist search teams and a police dog remain at the house and a cordon is in place.

Mr Greenwood was an historian and biographer, and also dealt in art and cars.

His books included Victoria’s Scottish Lion, and Through Spain with Wellington.
