Former Gillingham striker Tom Derry leaves Tonbridge Angels

Tonbridge promotion hero Tom Derry has been released.

The 25-year-old scored 13 goals in 46 games, including the extra-time winner in the super play-off final against Met Police that saw Angels promoted to National League South in 2019.

His last goal for the club came in their FA Cup second qualifying round win at Farnborough just over a week ago.

Manager Steve McKimm told Tonbridge's website: “I would like to thank Tom for his efforts while with us.

“He gave 100 per cent and I wish him all the very best for the future.

“He will of course always be remembered for the role he played in our 2018/19 promotion-winning side.”

Derry, who started his career at Gillingham, joined Tonbridge from Leatherhead in February 2019, with fans clubbing together to pay his wages.

He repaid them with his play-off goal, saying after the game: “This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in football and life in general. I’m over the moon we’ve done it.”

Tonbridge go to Chichester in the FA Cup third qualifying round tomorrow night.
