AN 88th minute penalty from Nevin Saroya denied Tonbridge a deserved point as they lost to league leaders Yeading by a single goal for the second time this season on Saturday.

A wind-assisted clearance from Delroy Preddie was allowed to bounce by substitute Nick Humphrey, and the centre half then failed to make a decisive clearance as DJ Campbell challenged.

Campbell broke into the area where he was felled by Jamie Turner, though both the keeper and his manager, Tony Dolby, felt the penalty award was harsh.

"We had a couple of chances to clear the ball and we didn’t but it wasn’t a penalty anyway," said Dolby afterwards.

"Jamie’s got a massive slice of the ball. Directionally, it’s gone backwards but he's given it and that’s how it goes. It’s our own undoing as well because we had chances to clear and we didn’t."

Saroya held his nerve to send Turner the wrong way from the spot to leave Tonbridge eight points from safety in the Ryman Premier League. The result was harsh on the home side who matched their opponents throughout and had several chances to take a first half lead.

Preddie looked uncertain dealing with crosses but though Dolby delivered some excellent set pieces into the six-yard box, the crucial connection from new strike pairing Leroy Huggins and Richard Brady was missing.

Brady, making his debut for the Angels, looked sharp despite having only played for the reserves in recent weeks.

Unfortunately, the two best chances fell to defender John Farley, his unlikely overhead kick being the closest effort of the half.

Yeading took the lead just four minutes after the break when a lapse in concentration gave Marvin Morgan room to manoeuvre and he steered the ball past Turner.

This sparked the Angels into one of their strongest periods, Dolby bringing a stunning full length save from Preddie with a typical left foot drive.

On 68 minutes, Huggins equalised from close range when Preddie spilled Brady’s drive after a twisting run, before Humphrey’s crucial mistake.
