Six rescued from house blaze

FIVE children and an adult were led to safety from a maisonette after fire broke out in the first floor kitchen.

Firefighters with two pumps were called the building at Goods Station Road, Tunbridge Wells, early today after a smoke detector there was activated.

The crews were at the scene for about half-an-hour.

A fire service spokeswoman said two children were led to safety from the first floor, another child was rescued from the second floor, and twins and the adult were led to safety from the ground floor.

The cause of the fire is unknown at present.
