Woman flees from burning house

A woman was treated for shock after a fire in her house in the middle of the night.

The woman escaped the blaze in the ground floor of the house in Cleveland, Tunbridge Wells, before fire crews arrrived.

The cause of the blaze, which started just after midnight Friday, is under investigation. Three crews - two from Tunbridge Wells and one from Southborough - fought the blaze, some wearing breathing aparatus, until 2.30am Saturday.

Around 60 per cent of the ground floor was left severely damaged by heat and fire, while the remainder of the house was smoke damaged.

Meanwhile, firefighters also spent more than four hours tackling a fire that completely gutted the roof of a Kent pub.

The blaze broke out shortly before 9pm on Friday at the White Cliff Inn at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone.

Fire crews were on the scene until around 1am on Saturday.
