October marks Black History Month in the UK, and to celebrate, Ashford’s Jay’s Soul Food and The Hope Tree are hosting a free cultural event on October 25th featuring a Caribbean/African feast, storytelling, hair styling, workshops on black history, drumming and much more.

This fun, family-friendly event will take place between 12pm to 4pm at Jay’s Soul Food, a popular restaurant and takeaway venue located at 12 New Street, Ashford, TN24 8UU. Jay’s Soul Food serves delicious authentic African and Caribbean food – from jerk chicken, patties and curry goat to traditional Nigerian soups.

.

The Black History Month celebration – the first of its kind in Ashford – hopes to bring the diverse Ashford community together and discover the richness of various cultures. Celebrations of these kinds have been ongoing since the 1980s, highlighting the significant contribution that the Black diaspora has made to the UK over the centuries.

Alongside a mouth-watering array of food prepared by the highly skilled team at Jay’s Soul Food, there will be various activities to enjoy throughout the day, including storytelling and black history workshops.

.

The event has been coordinated in partnership with The Hope Tree Counselling & Support Services, a non-profit organisation that works with children and families in Ashford and the surrounding areas, providing counselling, workshops, activity days and advice to families.

.

It is also supported and part-funded by Ashford Borough Council.

So, make sure to save the date – 25th October 2023! Jays Soul Food and The Hope Tree are looking forward to welcoming you and are excited about the potential of more events in Ashford in the coming years.
