National Bike Week: Divas on Wheels at Faversham and the Medway Big Ride

Whether it’s for charity, sport or just fun, people will be getting on their bikes this weekend as part of Bike Week 2017.

Don’t be a diva – get on your bike for the Pilgrims Hospices Divas on Wheels ladies-only, charity bike ride, which sets off from the Freewheel Pub and Cycling Cafe in Graveney near Faversham on Sunday, June 18.

Women can choose to try either a 25-mile or 50-mile route, both of which will take them through picturesque Kent countryside.

The ride is open to women of all abilities and any bike will do, even electric bikes – though not motorbikes as pedal power is the order of the day.

Dozens of Bike Heroes will be joining the ride and leading small groups, as well as offering roadside repairs.

Ladies can enjoy some post-ride pampering, homemade cakes, live music, a barbecue and – as it’s Fathers Day – there will be pampering for dads too.

Wateringbury-based Pink Lady apples is sponsoring the event and entrants get a goody bag when they finish.

NATIONAL BIKE WEEK

It runs until Sunday, June 18, aims to show how cycling can fit into everyday life. Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to get people to give cycling a go.

Organisers estimate it will add another 500,000 people to the five million in the UK who already cycle three times a week or more.
