Kent's most expensive two-bed terraced house goes up for sale in Whitstable

Demand for homes by the sea has shot up in recent years but one street in a coastal town is commanding especially eye-watering prices.

In Island Wall, Whitstable, a humble two-bed terrace has gone up for sale for a staggering £675,000.

That's almost £570,000 more than it sold for just 20 years ago and, according to Zoopla, makes it the most expensive two-bed terrace on the market in the county.

Also in Island Wall, two more similar properties are being offered for £565,000 and £525,000.

Whitstable has been growing in popularity for holiday homes for some years with Londoners - known locally as DFLs - fuelling the demand and pushing up prices.

By contrast, elsewhere in Kent, £675,000 will buy you half a historic mansion in Sittingbourne with six beds and three bathrooms, all set in a third of an acre with garaging and parking for several cars.

Agents Miles & Barr, who are selling the pretty period property in Whitstable, says Island Wall is a "highly desirable and sought after" location.

They add that the house would make "a fantastic second home by the sea or holiday let - just a short stroll from the beach and town centre."

It has two reception rooms and a kitchen on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor.

There is lapsed planning permission for a third en-suite bedroom in the loft and the garden has a timber built workshop/office.

Sales group director at Miles & Barr, Rob Sabin says the popularity of Island Wall is due to its proximity to both Whitstable’s seafront and the town centre.

"The desirable location appeals to many buyers, including those relocating to Whitstable, because the street is home to character properties and these style of homes will always be in demand, " he said.

"Buyers are attracted to Whitstable because it offers an alternative quality of life, good educational facilities, convenient transport links to London, plus award-winning beaches. We've also seen an increase in interest from buyers from London and the surrounding areas.

"Whitstable is one of our highest priced towns that Miles & Barr covers with an average sale price of £385,000 in 2021. Island Wall is just one location in Whitstable that is deemed as desirable by many buyers."

According to Zoopla, the average property price in Whitstable is up 2.76% over the past 12 months and in Kent overall, the average value of a home is £373,132, up 3.07%.
