Traffic delays on A299 Thanet Way between Herne Bay and Whitstable after crash

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after a two-car crash on a major road.

The New Thanet Way was blocked London-bound between Herne Bay and Whitstable following the incident shortly after 6am today.

Emergency services were at the scene on the A299 and highways officials from Kent County Council have warned motorists to "expect long delays in the area".

According to traffic information provider Inrix, traffic was being held along the stretch for 30 minutes.

Police confirmed officers were called to the A299 Thanet Way near Chestfield at 6.15am.

Officers attended along with paramedics and a 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

"The road was blocked while the incident was responded to but has since been cleared," a police spokesman said.

It is understood there were no serious injuries.
